Digital Engineering & MBSE

At Forward Engineering, digital transformation isn't just a goal; it's our core process.  We embed Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) as the driving engine of our Digital SEIT framework.


We apply advanced modeling techniques to create a Digital Single Source of Truth (SSOT).  This living model enhances program clarity, accelerates development, and "shifts left"—allowing us to find and fix risk in the model, not on the production line.


  

Our Digital Engineering Practice (Oversight or Execution)


  • System Architecture & Behavior Governance:  We architect the digital blueprint. We use our senior experience to define the functional, logical, and physical structures that matter most. We direct the modeling effort, ensuring compliance with industry standards (SysML, UML, UAF), or we deploy our MBSE specialists to build the rigorous models that map your system’s complete behavior.


  • Simulation & Performance Analysis Strategy:  We define the simulation strategy to validate mission performance. We know what to simulate to prove the system works. We oversee the analysis to ensure it drives design decisions or deploy our simulation experts to execute the trade studies and performance analysis that validate the system before hardware exists.


  • Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) Strategy & Integration:  We design and oversee the HIL integration strategy. We provide the roadmap for bridging the digital and physical worlds. We guide your team in establishing the test environment or we deploy our integration engineers to connect real hardware components with digital models for rapid prototyping and de-risking.


  • Digital Thread Governance:  We establish the governance for the Single Source of Truth. We define the rules that ensure data flows correctly from CONOPS to requirements to design. We audit and control this digital thread, or we deploy our data managers to maintain the authoritative model throughout the lifecycle.

  • Find Fatal Flaws Early: We move the discovery of critical defects from the flight line to the digital model. By identifying integration conflicts during the design phase, we prevent the catastrophic schedule slips that occur when hardware doesn't fit or software doesn't talk.


  • Create a Living Single Source of Truth (SSOT):  We eliminate the confusion of conflicting spreadsheets and outdated documents.  Our digital approach ensures that every stakeholder—from the program manager to the sub-contractor—is working from the exact same, up-to-date data set.


  • Accelerate Prototyping & TRL Maturity:  By seamlessly linking digital models to software or hardware-in-the-loop (SIL or HIL) environments, we allow for rapid testing of physical components against a virtual mission, significantly speeding up the maturation of Technology Readiness Levels (TRL).


  • Enable Agile Program Pivots:  When requirements change or new threats emerge, a robust digital model allows for rapid reconfiguration. We can assess the impact of a change in hours, not months, keeping the program agile and responsive to warfighter needs.
